Golden Lane Estate
In the shadow of the more famous Barbican Estate lies the Golden Lane Estate, another example of modernist urban planning and architecture.
It was designed by Chamberlin, Powell and Bon and completed in 1964.
The estate is made up of tall, slab-like blocks arranged around a central courtyard, connected by walkways and bridges that create a sense of community and of being above the city. Large windows let in plenty of natural light, and the flat roofs were designed as communal terraces.
The bright, sunny day helped me take sharp shots of the colourful surroundings.
It was great to discover such an (almost) hidden gem, overshadowed by a neighbour as iconic as the Barbican.
