Council Dreams
I have always been drawn to urban landscapes and working-class neighbourhoods. It might come from a love of hip-hop culture, the UK pirate radio scene and the Detroit techno sound that I developed from a fairly early age.
Whatever the reason, when I moved to London the city's impressive heritage of public housing architecture became a kind of playground for me.
I started visiting council estates across London, taking photos, and after a few years I realised I had pulled together enough material for a few series.
Through my lens, this collection of series tries to share what remains of the post-war utopian vision that councils, architects and urban planners pursued in London's social housing.
I wanted to capture the character and peculiarity of the architecture, often the work of bold, visionary architects, alongside the decaying, dystopian mood these places so often carry today.
